Hymn 8 — Alaukikodbalanākhyamaṣṭamaṁ stotram

यः प्रसादलव ईश्वरस्थितो या च भक्तिरिव मामुपेयुषी।
Yaḥ prasādalava īśvarasthito yā ca bhaktiriva māmupeyuṣī|
तौ परस्परसमन्वितौ कदा तादृशे वपुषि रूढिमेष्यतः॥८.१॥
Tau parasparasamanvitau kadā tādṛśe vapuṣi rūḍhimeṣyataḥ||8.1||

That (yaḥ) drop of grace (prasāda-lavaḥ), which abides in the Lord (īśvara-sthitaḥ), and (ca) that () devotion (bhaktiḥ), which as it were (iva) has approached (upeyuṣī) me (mām), — when (kadā) they two (tau), united with each other (paraspara-samanvitau), will rise (rūḍhim eṣyataḥ) in such a (tādṛśe) body (vapuṣi)?||8.1||


त्वत्प्रभुत्वपरिचर्वणजन्मा कोऽप्युदेतु परितोषरसोऽन्तः।
Tvatprabhutvaparicarvaṇajanmā ko'pyudetu paritoṣaraso'ntaḥ|
सर्वकालमिह मे परमस्तु ज्ञानयोगमहिमादि विदूरे॥८.२॥
Sarvakālamiha me paramastu jñānayogamahimādi vidūre||8.2||

Let it arise (udetu) within (antaḥ) some (kaḥ api) juice of perfect contentment (paritoṣa-rasaḥ), born from the tasting of Your dominion (tvat-prabhutva-paricarvaṇa-janmā); and the greatness of knowledge, yoga, and the rest (jñāna-yoga-mahimā-ādi) let it be (astu) for me (me) here (iha) at all times (sarva-kālam) only (param) far away (vidūre)||8.2||


लोकवद्भवतु मे विषयेषु स्फीत एव भगवन्परितर्षः।
Lokavadbhavatu me viṣayeṣu sphīta eva bhagavanparitarṣaḥ|
केवलं तव शरीरतयैतान्लोकयेयमहमस्तविकल्पः॥८.३॥
Kevalaṁ tava śarīratayaitānlokayeyamahamastavikalpaḥ||8.3||

Lord (bhagavan), may I have (me) be (bhavatu) toward objects (viṣayeṣu) a thirst (paritarṣaḥ) as abundant (sphītaḥ eva), as with all (loka-vat), — only (kevalam) may I (aham), devoid of discriminating thought (asta-vikalpaḥ), see (lokayeyam) them (etān) as Your (tava) body (śarīratayā)||8.3||


देहभूमिषु तथा मनसि त्वं प्राणवर्त्मनि च भेदमुपेते।
Dehabhūmiṣu tathā manasi tvaṁ prāṇavartmani ca bhedamupete|
संविदः पथिषु तेषु च तेन स्वात्मना मम भव स्फुटरूपः॥८.४॥
Saṁvidaḥ pathiṣu teṣu ca tena svātmanā mama bhava sphuṭarūpaḥ||8.4||

You (tvam), who have come to division (bhedam upete) in the stages of the body (deha-bhūmiṣu), and also (tathā) in the mind (manasi) and (ca) on the path of breath (prāṇa-vartmani), — on those (teṣu) paths (pathiṣu) of consciousness (saṁvidaḥ) become (bhava) for me (mama) that (tena) Self of Yours (sva-ātmanā), whose form is clear (sphuṭa-rūpaḥ)||8.4||


निजनिजेषु पदेषु पतन्त्विमाः करणवृत्तय उल्लसिता मम।
Nijanijeṣu padeṣu patantvimāḥ karaṇavṛttaya ullasitā mama|
क्षणमपीश मनागपि मैव भूत्त्वदविभेदरसक्षतिसाहसम्॥८.५॥
Kṣaṇamapīśa manāgapi maiva bhūttvadavibhedarasakṣatisāhasam||8.5||

Let these (imāḥ) my (mama) surged-up (ullasitāḥ) activities of the sense organs (karaṇa-vṛttayaḥ) fall (patantu) each to its own (nija-nijeṣu) place (padeṣu). O Lord (īśa), let there not be (mā eva bhūt) even for a moment (kṣaṇam api) and not even a hair’s breadth (manāk api) of audacity to harm the rasa of non-differentiation from You (tvat-avibheda-rasa-kṣati-sāhasam)||8.5||


लघुमसृणसिताच्छशीतलं भवदावेशवशेन भावयन्।
Laghumasṛṇasitācchaśītalaṁ bhavadāveśavaśena bhāvayan|
वपुरखिलपदार्थपद्धतेर्व्यवहारानतिवर्तयेय तान्॥८.६॥
Vapurakhilapadārthapaddhatervyavahārānativartayeya tān||8.6||

By the power of entering into You (bhavat-āveśa-vaśena) contemplating (bhāvayan) the body (vapuḥ) of the entire sequence of things (akhila-padārtha-paddhateḥ) as light, smooth, white, transparent, and cool (laghu-masṛṇa-sita-accha-śītalam) — may I not transgress (na ativartayeya) those (tān) customary practices (vyavahārān)||8.6||


विकसतु स्ववपुर्भवदात्मकं समुपयान्तु जगन्ति ममाङ्गताम्।
Vikasatu svavapurbhavadātmakaṁ samupayāntu jaganti mamāṅgatām|
व्रजतु सर्वमिदं द्वयवल्गितं स्मृतिपथोपगमेऽप्यनुपाख्यताम्॥८.७॥
Vrajatu sarvamidaṁ dvayavalgitaṁ smṛtipathopagame'pyanupākhyatām||8.7||

Let it open (vikasatu) the own body (sva-vapuḥ), consisting of You (bhavat-ātmakam); let the worlds (jaganti) become (samupayāntu) my (mama) limbs (aṅgatām); let all (sarvam) this (idam) dance of duality (dvaya-valgitam) go (vrajatu) into namelessness (anupākhyatām)even (api) when it comes (upagame) onto the path of memory (smṛti-patha)||8.7||


समुदियादपि तादृशतावकानन विलोक परामृतसम्प्लवः।
Samudiyādapi tādṛśatāvakānana viloka parāmṛtasamplavaḥ|
मम घटेत यथा भवदद्वयाप्रथनघोरदरीपरिपूरणम्॥८.८॥
Mama ghaṭeta yathā bhavadadvayāprathanaghoradarīparipūraṇam||8.8||

O Thou, whose face is such (tādṛśa-tāvaka-ānana), look (viloka)! May (api) rise (samudiyāt) the flood of supreme nectar (para-amṛta-samplavaḥ), — so that (yathā) for me (mama) might come to pass (ghaṭeta) the filling of the terrible cave where non-duality with Thee does not shine (bhavat-advaya-aprathana-ghora-darī-paripūraṇam)||8.8||


अपि कदाचन तावकसङ्गमामृतकणाच्छुरणेन तनीयसा।
Api kadācana tāvakasaṅgamāmṛtakaṇācchuraṇena tanīyasā|
सकललोकसुखेषु पराङ्मुखो न भवितास्म्युभयच्युत एव किम्॥८.९॥
Sakalalokasukheṣu parāṅmukho na bhavitāsmyubhayacyuta eva kim||8.9||

What if (kim) I, turning away (parāṅ-mukhaḥ) from all worldly joys (sakala-loka-sukheṣu) for the sake of the subtlest (tanīyasā) trace of a drop of nectar of meeting with Thee (tāvaka-saṅgama-amṛta-kaṇa-ācchuraṇena), fallen at any time (api kadācana), — shall I not become (na bhavitā asmi) deprived of both (ubhaya-cyutaḥ eva)?||8.9||


सततमेव भवच्चरणाम्बुजाकरचरस्य हि हंसवरस्य मे।
Satatameva bhavaccaraṇāmbujākaracarasya hi haṁsavarasya me|
उपरि मूलतलादपि चान्तरादुपनमत्वज भक्तिमृणालिका॥८.१०॥
Upari mūlatalādapi cāntarādupanamatvaja bhaktimṛṇālikā||8.10||

O Unborn One (aja)! To me (me), the best of swans (haṁsa-varasya), who ceaselessly (satatam eva) swims in the lake of Your lotus-feet (bhavat-caraṇa-ambuja-ākara-carasya), — may it be granted (upanamatu) the stalk of the lotus of devotion (bhakti-mṛṇālikā) and from above (upari), and (ca) from the very bottom of the root (mūla-talāt api), and from within (antarāt)||8.10||


उपयान्तु विभो समस्तवस्तून्यपि चिन्ताविषयं दृशः पदं च।
Upayāntu vibho samastavastūnyapi cintāviṣayaṁ dṛśaḥ padaṁ ca|
मम दर्शनचिन्तनप्रकाशामृतसाराणि परं परिस्फुरन्तु॥८.११॥
Mama darśanacintanaprakāśāmṛtasārāṇi paraṁ parisphurantu||8.11||

O All-Pervading (vibho), may all (samastāni) things (vastūni) become (upayāntu) and (api) an object of thought (cintā-viṣayam), and (ca) that which the eyes see (dṛśaḥ padam), — and may they in me (mama) shine (parisphurantu) with but one (param) essence of the nectarous light of seeing and thought (darśana-cintana-prakāśa-amṛta-sārāṇi)||8.11||


परमेश्वर तेषु तेषु कृच्छ्रेष्वपि नामोपनमत्स्वहं भवेयम्।
Parameśvara teṣu teṣu kṛcchreṣvapi nāmopanamatsvahaṁ bhaveyam|
न परं गतभीस्त्वदङ्गसङ्गादुपजाताधिकसम्मदोऽपि यावत्॥८.१२॥
Na paraṁ gatabhīstvadaṅgasaṅgādupajātādhikasammado'pi yāvat||8.12||

The Supreme Lord (parama-īśvara), when they approach (upanamatsu) these and those (teṣu teṣu) afflictions (kṛcchreṣu), may I be (bhaveyam) I (aham) not (na) merely (param) free from fear (gata-bhīḥ)but (api) so much (yāvat), that from the touch of Your body (tvat-aṅga-saṅgāt) an even greater rapture might arise in me (upajāta-adhika-sammadaḥ)||8.12||


भवदात्मनि विश्वमुम्भितं यद्भवतैवापि बहिः प्रकाश्यते तत्।
Bhavadātmani viśvamumbhitaṁ yadbhavataivāpi bahiḥ prakāśyate tat|
इति यद्दृढनिश्चयोपजुष्टं तदिदानिं स्फुटमेव भासताम्॥८.१३॥
Iti yaddṛḍhaniścayopajuṣṭaṁ tadidāniṁ sphuṭameva bhāsatām||8.13||

“The universe (viśvam), which (yat) is placed (umbhitam) in Your self (bhavat-ātmani), by You alone (bhavatā eva) and (api) is manifested (prakāśyate) outwardly (bahiḥ)” — that (tat), which (yat) is accepted (upajuṣṭam) with firm conviction (dṛḍha-niścaya), let it now (idānīm) shine forth (bhāsatām) clearly (sphuṭam eva)||8.13||
