न किञ्चिदेव लोकानां भवदावरणं प्रति।
Na kiñcideva lokānāṁ bhavadāvaraṇaṁ prati|
न किञ्चिदेव भक्तानां भवदावरणं प्रति॥१६.१॥
Na kiñcideva bhaktānāṁ bhavadāvaraṇaṁ prati||16.1||
For the world there is nothing, that would become a cover for You. For the devotees there is nothing, that would become a cover for You — both lines in the original coincide word for word, except the first: the difference is only in whom it concerns — ||16.1||
अप्युपायक्रमप्राप्यः सङ्कुलोऽपि विशेषणैः।
Apyupāyakramaprāpyaḥ saṅkulo'pi viśeṣaṇaiḥ|
भक्तिभाजां भवानात्मा सकृच्छुद्धोऽवभासते॥१६.२॥
Bhaktibhājāṁ bhavānātmā sakṛcchuddho'vabhāsate||16.2||
Though You are attainable through a sequence of means, though and obstructed by definitions, — to those who partake of devotion, You, their self, appear at once pure||16.2||
जयन्तोऽपि हसन्त्येते जिता अपि हसन्ति च।
Jayanto'pi hasantyete jitā api hasanti ca|
भवद्भक्तिसुधापानमत्ताः केऽप्येव ये प्रभो॥१६.३॥
Bhavadbhaktisudhāpānamattāḥ ke'pyeva ye prabho||16.3||
O Lord, these — whoever (ke api eva) they may be — are intoxicated by drinking the nectar of devotion to Thee: conquering, they laugh, and conquered, they laugh||16.3||
शुष्ककं मैव सिद्धेय मैव मुच्येय वापि तु।
Śuṣkakaṁ maiva siddheya maiva mucyeya vāpi tu|
स्वादिष्ठपरकाष्टाप्तत्वद्भक्तिरसनिर्भरः॥१६.४॥
Svādiṣṭhaparakāṣṭāptatvadbhaktirasanirbharaḥ||16.4||
May I not become perfect in a dry manner, nor indeed be liberated, — but may I be filled with the juice of devotion to You, having reached the sweetest highest limit||16.4||
यथैवज्ञातपूर्वोऽयं भवद्भक्तिरसो मम।
Yathaivajñātapūrvo'yaṁ bhavadbhaktiraso mama|
घटितस्तद्वदीशान स एव परिपुष्यतु॥१६.५॥
Ghaṭitastadvadīśāna sa eva paripuṣyatu||16.5||
The Lord, as has formed in me this juice of devotion to You, previously unknown, — likewise may it also grow||16.5||
सत्येन भगवन्नान्यः प्रार्थनाप्रसरोऽस्ति मे।
Satyena bhagavannānyaḥ prārthanāprasaro'sti me|
केवलं स तथा कोऽपि भक्त्यावेशोऽस्तु मे सदा॥१६.६॥
Kevalaṁ sa tathā ko'pi bhaktyāveśo'stu me sadā||16.6||
O Lord, in truth I have no (na asti me) other scope for requests. Only let there be for me always that certain such entrance into devotion||16.6||
भक्तिक्षीवोऽपि कुप्येयं भवायानुशयीय च।
Bhaktikṣīvo'pi kupyeyaṁ bhavāyānuśayīya ca|
तथा हसेयं उद्यां च रटेयं च शिवेत्यलम्॥१६.७॥
Tathā haseyaṁ udyāṁ ca raṭeyaṁ ca śivetyalam||16.7||
Drunk with devotion, may I rage, and may I repent of existence, and likewise may I laugh, and may I rise, and may I shout to my fill: “Śiva!” (śiva iti)||16.7||
विषमस्थोऽपि स्वस्थोऽपि रुदन्नपि हसन्नपि।
Viṣamastho'pi svastho'pi rudannapi hasannapi|
गम्भीरोऽपि विचित्तोऽपि भवेयं भक्तितः प्रभो॥१६.८॥
Gambhīro'pi vicitto'pi bhaveyaṁ bhaktitaḥ prabho||16.8||
O Lord, may I be through devotion — both in distress, and at peace with myself, and weeping (rudan api), and laughing (hasan api), and profound, and out of my mind||16.8||
भक्तानां नास्ति संवेद्यं त्वदन्तर्यदि वा बहिः।
Bhaktānāṁ nāsti saṁvedyaṁ tvadantaryadi vā bahiḥ|
चिद्धर्मा यत्र न भवान्निर्विकल्पः स्थितः स्वयम्॥१६.९॥
Ciddharmā yatra na bhavānnirvikalpaḥ sthitaḥ svayam||16.9||
For the devotees there is no (na asti) knowable — neither within You, nor outside, — such that where You Yourself, whose law is Consciousness, would not stand without discriminating thought||16.9||
भक्ता निन्दानुकरेऽपि तवामृतकणैरिव।
Bhaktā nindānukare'pi tavāmṛtakaṇairiva|
हृष्यन्त्येवान्तराविद्धास्तीक्ष्णरोमाञ्चसूचिभिः॥१६.१०॥
Hṛṣyantyevāntarāviddhāstīkṣṇaromāñcasūcibhiḥ||16.10||
The devotees, pierced from within by the sharp needles of bristling bodily hairs, rejoice and when in their presence the reviling of You is mimicked — as if by drops of nectar||16.10||
दुःखापि वेदना भक्तिमतां भोगाय कल्पते।
Duḥkhāpi vedanā bhaktimatāṁ bhogāya kalpate|
येषां सुधार्द्रा सर्वैव संवित्त्वच्चन्द्रिकामयी॥१६.११॥
Yeṣāṁ sudhārdrā sarvaiva saṁvittvaccandrikāmayī||16.11||
And bitter sensation goes into enjoyment for those devotees, in whom all consciousness, moist with nectar, consists of Your moonlight||16.11||
यत्र तत्रोपरुद्धानां भक्तानां बहिरन्तरे।
Yatra tatroparuddhānāṁ bhaktānāṁ bahirantare|
निर्व्याजं त्वद्वपुःस्पर्शरसास्वादसुखं समम्॥१६.१२॥
Nirvyājaṁ tvadvapuḥsparśarasāsvādasukhaṁ samam||16.12||
Among the devotees, wherever they may be locked away, outside and inside — exactly and without forgery happiness of relishing the juice of touching Your body||16.12||
तवेश भक्तेरर्चायां दैन्यांशं द्वयसंश्रयम्।
Taveśa bhakterarcāyāṁ dainyāṁśaṁ dvayasaṁśrayam|
विलुप्यास्वादयन्त्येके वपुरच्छं सुधामयम्॥१६.१३॥
Vilupyāsvādayantyeke vapuracchaṁ sudhāmayam||16.13||
The Lord, others, having erased in worship of Yours of devotion a share of humiliation, that rests on duality, they taste the transparent body, consisting of nectar||16.13||
भ्रान्तास्तीर्थदृशो भिन्ना भ्रान्तेरेव हि भिन्नता।
Bhrāntāstīrthadṛśo bhinnā bhrāntereva hi bhinnatā|
निष्प्रतिद्वन्द्वि वस्त्वेकं भक्तानां त्वं तु राजसे॥१६.१४॥
Niṣpratidvandvi vastvekaṁ bhaktānāṁ tvaṁ tu rājase||16.14||
The lost — those who see the holy fords as different: for difference — only from delusion. But Thou for the devotees shinest as the one thing, which has no rival||16.14||
मानावमानरागादिनिष्पाकविमलं मनः।
Mānāvamānarāgādiniṣpākavimalaṁ manaḥ|
यस्यासौ भक्तिमाम्ँल्लोकतुल्यशीलः कथं भवेत्॥१६.१५॥
Yasyāsau bhaktimām̐llokatulyaśīlaḥ kathaṁ bhavet||16.15||
Whose mind is pure from the digestion of honor, dishonor, passion, and so forth, — how this devotee would be of one disposition with the world?||16.15||
रागद्वेषन्धकारोऽपि येषां भक्तित्विषा जितः।
Rāgadveṣandhakāro'pi yeṣāṁ bhaktitviṣā jitaḥ|
तेषां महीयसामग्रे कतमे ज्ञानशालिनः॥१६.१६॥
Teṣāṁ mahīyasāmagre katame jñānaśālinaḥ||16.16||
Those for whom even the darkness of passion and hatred is conquered by the radiance of devotion, — before those greatest which the wise?||16.16||
यस्य भक्तिसुधास्नानपानादिविधिसाधनम्।
Yasya bhaktisudhāsnānapānādividhisādhanam|
तस्य प्रारब्धमध्यान्तदशासूच्चैः सुखासिका॥१६.१७॥
Tasya prārabdhamadhyāntadaśāsūccaiḥ sukhāsikā||16.17||
For whom the means of accomplishment — bathing, drinking, and so on in the nectar of devotion, — for him high sits happiness at the beginning, in the middle, and at the end||16.17||
कीर्त्यश्चिन्तापदं मृग्यः पूज्यो येन त्वमेव तत्।
Kīrtyaścintāpadaṁ mṛgyaḥ pūjyo yena tvameva tat|
भवद्भक्तिमतां श्लाघ्या लोकयात्रा भवन्मयी॥१६.१८॥
Bhavadbhaktimatāṁ ślāghyā lokayātrā bhavanmayī||16.18||
Rasa Thou alone — the one to be praised, the object of thought, whom to seek and to revere, — that for those devoted to Thee the very worldly path is praiseworthy and consists of Thee||16.18||
मुक्तिसञ्ज्ञा विपक्वाया भक्तेरेव त्वयि प्रभो।
Muktisañjñā vipakvāyā bhaktereva tvayi prabho|
तस्यामाद्यदशारूढा मुक्तकल्पा वयं ततः॥१६.१९॥
Tasyāmādyadaśārūḍhā muktakalpā vayaṁ tataḥ||16.19||
The Lord, the name “liberation” — of the matured devotion You. And since we rose her first stage, — then we almost liberated||16.19||
दुःखागमोऽपि भूयान्मे त्वद्भक्तिभरितात्मनः।
Duḥkhāgamo'pi bhūyānme tvadbhaktibharitātmanaḥ|
त्वत्पराची विभो मा भूदपि सौख्यपरम्परा॥१६.२०॥
Tvatparācī vibho mā bhūdapi saukhyaparamparā||16.20||
May there be for me, whose self is filled with devotion to Thee, and also much the coming of sorrow; but let there not be, All-pervading One, let there be a succession of happiness, turned away from Thee||16.20||
त्वं भक्त्या प्रीयसे भक्तिः प्रीते त्वयि च नाथ यत्।
Tvaṁ bhaktyā prīyase bhaktiḥ prīte tvayi ca nātha yat|
तदन्योन्याश्रयं युक्तं यथा वेत्थ त्वमेव तत्॥१६.२१॥
Tadanyonyāśrayaṁ yuktaṁ yathā vettha tvameva tat||16.21||
O Lord, Thou rejoicest in devotion, and devotion — when Thou art pleased. That, which is mutual dependence, is fitting so, as Thou knowest Thou alone||16.21||
साकारो वा निराकरो वान्तर्वा बहिरेव वा।
Sākāro vā nirākaro vāntarvā bahireva vā|
भक्तिमत्तात्मनां नाथ सर्वथासि सुधामयः॥१६.२२॥
Bhaktimattātmanāṁ nātha sarvathāsi sudhāmayaḥ||16.22||
Lord, with form or, without form or, inside or, outside or, — for those whose selves are full of devotion, You in all respects consist of nectar||16.22||
अस्मिन्नेव जगत्यन्तर्भवद्भक्तिमतः प्रति।
Asminneva jagatyantarbhavadbhaktimataḥ prati|
हर्षप्रकाशनफलमन्यदेव जगत्स्थितम्॥१६.२३॥
Harṣaprakāśanaphalamanyadeva jagatsthitam||16.23||
For one who is devoted to You, within this very (asmin eva) world stands a completely different world, whose fruit is to manifest joy||16.23||
गुह्ये भक्तिः परे भक्तिर्भक्तिर्विश्वमहेश्वरे।
Guhye bhaktiḥ pare bhaktirbhaktirviśvamaheśvare|
त्वयि शम्भौ शिवे देव भक्तिर्नाम किमप्यहो॥१६.२४॥
Tvayi śambhau śive deva bhaktirnāma kimapyaho||16.24||
God, devotion — to the secret, devotion — to the highest, devotion — to the Great Lord of the universe, devotion — to You, Śambhu, Śiva! O, “devotion” — this is something inexpressible||16.24||
भक्तिर्भक्तिः परे भक्तिर्भक्तिर्नाम समुत्कटा।
Bhaktirbhaktiḥ pare bhaktirbhaktirnāma samutkaṭā|
तारं विरौमि यत्तीव्रा भक्तिर्मेऽस्तु परं त्वयि॥१६.२५॥
Tāraṁ viraumi yattīvrā bhaktirme'stu paraṁ tvayi||16.25||
Devotion, devotion, devotion — to the Supreme, devotion, by itself fierce! Therefore I cry out at the top of my voice: let there be for me toward You intense devotion — and only that||16.25||
यतोऽस्मि सर्वशोभानां प्रसवावनिरीश तत्।
Yato'smi sarvaśobhānāṁ prasavāvanirīśa tat|
त्वयि लग्नमनर्घं स्याद्रत्नं वा यदि वा तृणम्॥१६.२६॥
Tvayi lagnamanarghaṁ syādratnaṁ vā yadi vā tṛṇam||16.26||
The Lord, since I — the soil that gives birth to all beauties, that which clings to Thee will become priceless — whether a gem or, a blade of grass or||16.26||
आवेदकादा च वेद्याद्येषां संवेदनाध्वनि।
Āvedakādā ca vedyādyeṣāṁ saṁvedanādhvani|
भवता न वियोगोऽस्ति ते जयन्ति भवज्जुषः॥१६.२७॥
Bhavatā na viyogo'sti te jayanti bhavajjuṣaḥ||16.27||
Let them triumph those, who are devoted to Thee, for whom on the path of consciousness — from the knower and to the knowable — there is no (na asti) separation from Thee||16.27||
संसारसदसो बाह्ये कैश्चित्त्वं परिरभ्यसे।
Saṁsārasadaso bāhye kaiścittvaṁ parirabhyase|
स्वामिन्परैस्तु तत्रैव ताम्यद्भिस्त्यक्तयन्त्रणैः॥१६.२८॥
Svāminparaistu tatraiva tāmyadbhistyaktayantraṇaiḥ||16.28||
The Lord, some embrace Thee outside the assembly of the cycle, but others — in that very place (tatra eva), languishing and having cast off the rein||16.28||
पानाशनप्रसाधनसम्भुक्तसमस्तविश्वया शिवया।
Pānāśanaprasādhanasambhuktasamastaviśvayā śivayā|
प्रलयोत्सवसरभसया दृढमुपगूढं शिवं वन्दे॥१६.२९॥
Pralayotsavasarabhasayā dṛḍhamupagūḍhaṁ śivaṁ vande||16.29||
I praise Śiva, firmly embraced Śivā, who in the swift rapture of dissolution drank and devoured the entire universe instead of drink, food, and adornment||16.29||
परमेश्वरता जयत्यपूर्वा तव विश्वेश यदीशितव्यशून्या।
Parameśvaratā jayatyapūrvā tava viśveśa yadīśitavyaśūnyā|
अपरापि तथैव ते ययेदं जगदाभाति यथा तथा न भाति॥१६.३०॥
Aparāpi tathaiva te yayedaṁ jagadābhāti yathā tathā na bhāti||16.30||
Lord of the universe, conquers Your unprecedented supreme lordship — if it is empty of that over which to rule. And another Your — likewise such that by it this world appears so, as it does not appear||16.30||
