चपलमसि यदपि मानस तत्रापि श्लाघ्यसे यतो भजसे।
Capalamasi yadapi mānasa tatrāpi ślāghyase yato bhajase|
शरणानामपि शरणं त्रिभुवनगुरुमम्बिकाकान्तम्॥४.१॥
Śaraṇānāmapi śaraṇaṁ tribhuvanagurumambikākāntam||4.1||
Though you are fickle, O mind, still you are praised — for that you honor the refuge even of refuges, the teacher of the three worlds, the beloved of Ambikā||4.1||
उल्लङ्घ्य विविधदैवतसोपानक्रममुपेय शिवचरणान्।
Ullaṅghya vividhadaivatasopānakramamupeya śivacaraṇān|
आश्रित्याप्यधरतरां भूमिं नाद्यापि चित्रमुज्झामि॥४.२॥
Āśrityāpyadharatarāṁ bhūmiṁ nādyāpi citramujjhāmi||4.2||
Wonder: having stepped over the staircase of various deities and having reached the feet of Śiva, I, having clung to the much lower earth, and even now I do not abandon it||4.2||
प्रकटय निजमध्वानं स्थगयतरामखिललोकचरितानि।
Prakaṭaya nijamadhvānaṁ sthagayatarāmakhilalokacaritāni|
यावद्भवामि भगवंस्तव सपदि सदोदितो दासः॥४.३॥
Yāvadbhavāmi bhagavaṁstava sapadi sadodito dāsaḥ||4.3||
Reveal my path, hide more securely all the ways of the world, — so that I may become, Lord, at once Thy ever-rising servant||4.3||
शिव शिव शम्भो शङ्कर शरणागतवत्सलाशु कुरु करुणाम्।
Śiva śiva śambho śaṅkara śaraṇāgatavatsalāśu kuru karuṇām|
तव चरणकमलयुगलस्मरणपरस्य हि सम्पदोऽदूरे॥४.४॥
Tava caraṇakamalayugalasmaraṇaparasya hi sampado'dūre||4.4||
Śiva, Śiva, Śambhu, Śaṅkara, loving those who have come under your protection! Quickly grant mercy: for for one who is devoted to remembrance of the pair of Your lotus-feet, riches are not far||4.4||
तावकाङ्घ्रिकमलासनलीना ये यथारुचि जगद्रचयन्ति।
Tāvakāṅghrikamalāsanalīnā ye yathāruci jagadracayanti|
ते विरिञ्चिमधिकारमलेनालिप्तमस्ववशमीश हसन्ति॥४.५॥
Te viriñcimadhikāramalenāliptamasvavaśamīśa hasanti||4.5||
The Lord, those, who, having dissolved on the seat of Your lotus-feet, create the world as they please, — they laugh at Viriñci, stained with the dirt of office and not master of himself||4.5||
त्वत्प्रकाशवपुषो न विभिन्नं किं चन प्रभवति प्रतिभातुम्।
Tvatprakāśavapuṣo na vibhinnaṁ kiṁ cana prabhavati pratibhātum|
तत्सदैव भगवन्परिलब्धोऽसीश्वर प्रकृतितोऽपि विदूरः॥४.६॥
Tatsadaiva bhagavanparilabdho'sīśvara prakṛtito'pi vidūraḥ||4.6||
Nothing separate from Your body of Light no in force appear. Therefore, The Lord, You always already attained, Lord, — even though and by His nature far away||4.6||
पादपङ्कजरसं तव केचिद्भेदपर्युषितवृत्तिमुपेताः।
Pādapaṅkajarasaṁ tava kecidbhedaparyuṣitavṛttimupetāḥ|
के चनापि रसयन्ति तु सध्यो भातमक्षतवपुर्द्वयशून्यम्॥४.७॥
Ke canāpi rasayanti tu sadhyo bhātamakṣatavapurdvayaśūnyam||4.7||
The nectar of Your lotus-feet some taste, having fallen into a state hardened by discrimination, while others — freshly, as it shone forth, with body untouched, empty of duality||4.7||
नाथ विद्युदिव भाति विभाते या कदा चन ममामृतदिग्धा।
Nātha vidyudiva bhāti vibhāte yā kadā cana mamāmṛtadigdhā|
सा यदि स्थिरतरैव भवेत्तत्पूजितोऽसि विधिवत्किमुतान्यत्॥४.८॥
Sā yadi sthirataraiva bhavettatpūjito'si vidhivatkimutānyat||4.8||
The Lord, that, which sometimes shines in me at dawn, like lightning, anointed with nectar, — if it were to become even a little more stable, then You would be honoured according to all rules. What need then of another?||4.8||
सर्वमस्यपरमस्ति न किञ्चिद्वस्त्ववस्तु यदि वेति महत्या।
Sarvamasyaparamasti na kiñcidvastvavastu yadi veti mahatyā|
प्रज्ञाय व्यवसितोऽत्र यथैव त्वं तथैव भव सुप्रकटो मे॥४.९॥
Prajñāya vyavasito'tra yathaiva tvaṁ tathaiva bhava suprakaṭo me||4.9||
You — everything, and there is nothing else, whether a thing or a non-thing. As You are determined here by great understanding, so and appear to me in visible form||4.9||
स्वेच्छयैव भगवन्निजमार्गे कारितः पदमहं प्रभुनैव।
Svecchayaiva bhagavannijamārge kāritaḥ padamahaṁ prabhunaiva|
तत्कथं जनवदेव चरामि त्वत्पदोचितमवैमि न किञ्चित्॥४.१०॥
Tatkathaṁ janavadeva carāmi tvatpadocitamavaimi na kiñcit||4.10||
Lord, by Your own will, by the will of the Master, I have been placed by the foot on Your path. Why then do I walk like an ordinary man and do not know anything, that would befit Your foot?||4.10||
कोऽपि देव हृदि तेषु तावको जृम्भते सुभगभाव उत्तमः।
Ko'pi deva hṛdi teṣu tāvako jṛmbhate subhagabhāva uttamaḥ|
त्वत्कथाम्बुदनिनादचातका येन तेऽपि सुभगीकृताश्चिरम्॥४.११॥
Tvatkathāmbudaninādacātakā yena te'pi subhagīkṛtāściram||4.11||
O God, in their hearts unfolds some Thy highest state of blissful beauty, by which even those cātakas, that cry at the thunder of the clouds of tales about Thee, for long are made blissful||4.11||
त्वज्जुषां त्वयि कयापि लीलया राग एष परिपोषमागतः।
Tvajjuṣāṁ tvayi kayāpi līlayā rāga eṣa paripoṣamāgataḥ|
यद्वियोगभुवि सङ्कथा तथा संस्मृतिः फलति सङ्गमोत्सवम्॥४.१२॥
Yadviyogabhuvi saṅkathā tathā saṁsmṛtiḥ phalati saṅgamotsavam||4.12||
In those devoted to You this love for You by some play has reached fullness: for on the soil of separation both conversation, and remembrance bear fruit as the festival of meeting||4.12||
यो विचित्ररससेकवर्धितः शङ्करेति शतशोऽप्युदीरितः।
Yo vicitrarasasekavardhitaḥ śaṅkareti śataśo'pyudīritaḥ|
शब्द आविशति तिर्यगाशयेष्वप्ययं नवनवप्रयोजनः॥४.१३॥
Śabda āviśati tiryagāśayeṣvapyayaṁ navanavaprayojanaḥ||4.13||
This word «Śaṅkara», nurtured by watering with various juices, uttered even though hundreds of times, enters even in the hearts of animals — and every time with new benefit||4.13||
ते जयन्ति मुखमण्डले भ्रमनस्ति येषु नियतं शिवध्वनिः।
Te jayanti mukhamaṇḍale bhramanasti yeṣu niyataṁ śivadhvaniḥ|
यः शाशीव प्रसृतोऽमृताशयात्स्वादु संस्रवति चामृतं परम्॥४.१४॥
Yaḥ śāśīva prasṛto'mṛtāśayātsvādu saṁsravati cāmṛtaṁ param||4.14||
May victory be theirs those, in whom in the circle of the face constantly wanders the sound “Śiva”, — that one, who, like the moon, has stretched forth from the receptacle of nectar and pours forth sweet supreme nectar||4.14||
परिसमाप्तमिवोग्रमिदं जगद्विगलितोऽविरलो मनसो मलः।
Parisamāptamivogramidaṁ jagadvigalito'viralo manaso malaḥ|
तदपि नास्ति भवत्पुरार्गलकवाटविघट्टनमण्वपि॥४.१५॥
Tadapi nāsti bhavatpurārgalakavāṭavighaṭṭanamaṇvapi||4.15||
This fierce world as if came to an end, the dense mire of the mind flowed away, — and yet there is not even a hair’s breadth of shaking of the bolt and the shutters of Your city||4.15||
सततफुल्लभवन्मुखपङ्कजोदरविलोकनलालसचेतसः।
Satataphullabhavanmukhapaṅkajodaravilokanalālasacetasaḥ|
किमपि तत्कुरु नाथ मनागिव स्फुरसि येन ममाभिमुखस्थितिः॥४.१६॥
Kimapi tatkuru nātha manāgiva sphurasi yena mamābhimukhasthitiḥ||4.16||
O Lord, grant to me, whose heart yearns to gaze into the cup of Thy ever-blossoming lotus-face, something such, that Thou mayest shine but a little forth — and I might stand facing Thee||4.16||
त्वदविभेदमतेरपरं नु किं सुखमिहास्ति विभूतिरथापरा।
Tvadavibhedamateraparaṁ nu kiṁ sukhamihāsti vibhūtirathāparā|
तदिह तावकदासजनस्य किं कुपथमेति मनः परिहृत्य ताम्॥४.१७॥
Tadiha tāvakadāsajanasya kiṁ kupathameti manaḥ parihṛtya tām||4.17||
Is there here any happiness higher than the consciousness of non-distinction from Thee, or another perfection? Why then the mind of the man who is Thy servant, having abandoned it, goes along the evil path?||4.17||
क्षणमपीह न तावकदासतां प्रति भवेयमहं किल भाजनम्।
Kṣaṇamapīha na tāvakadāsatāṁ prati bhaveyamahaṁ kila bhājanam|
भवदभेदरसासवमादरादविरतं रसयेयमहं न चेत्॥४.१८॥
Bhavadabhedarasāsavamādarādavirataṁ rasayeyamahaṁ na cet||4.18||
Not for a moment here not will I be I a vessel, fit for servitude to You, — if only (na cet) I do not reverently, uninterruptedly, taste the intoxicating nectar of non-distinction from You||4.18||
न किल पश्यति सत्यमयं जनस्तव वपुर्द्वयदृष्टिमलीमसः।
Na kila paśyati satyamayaṁ janastava vapurdvayadṛṣṭimalīmasaḥ|
तदपि सर्वविदाश्रितवत्सलः किमिदमारटितं न शृणोषि मे॥४.१९॥
Tadapi sarvavidāśritavatsalaḥ kimidamāraṭitaṁ na śṛṇoṣi me||4.19||
Truth, this man, stained by the vision of duality, does not see Your body. But still — You, the all-knowing, loving those who have come for refuge, — why do You not hear this my cry?||4.19||
स्मरसि नाथ कदाचिदपीहितं विषयसौख्यमथापि मयार्थितम्।
Smarasi nātha kadācidapīhitaṁ viṣayasaukhyamathāpi mayārthitam|
सततमेव भवद्वपुरीक्षणामृतमभीष्टमलं मम देहि तत्॥४.२०॥
Satatameva bhavadvapurīkṣaṇāmṛtamabhīṣṭamalaṁ mama dehi tat||4.20||
Lord, do you remember that I ever desired or asked for happiness from objects? Give me that, which I always (satatam eva) abundantly desire, — the nectar of beholding Your body||4.20||
किल यदैव शिवाध्वनि तावके कृतपदोऽस्मि महेश तवेच्छया।
Kila yadaiva śivādhvani tāvake kṛtapado'smi maheśa tavecchayā|
शुभशतान्युदितानि तदैव मे किमपरं मृगये भवतः प्रभो॥४.२१॥
Śubhaśatānyuditāni tadaiva me kimaparaṁ mṛgaye bhavataḥ prabho||4.21||
The Great Lord, as soon as I placed my foot on Thy path of Śiva — by Thy very will, — then indeed arose in me hundreds of blessings. What more should I seek from Thee, O Lord?||4.21||
यत्र सोऽस्तमयमेति विवस्वांश्चन्द्रमः प्रभृतिभिः सह सर्वैः।
Yatra so'stamayameti vivasvāṁścandramaḥ prabhṛtibhiḥ saha sarvaiḥ|
कापि सा विजयते शिवरात्रिः स्वप्रभाप्रसरभास्वररूपा॥४.२२॥
Kāpi sā vijayate śivarātriḥ svaprabhāprasarabhāsvararūpā||4.22||
Where sets that sun together with all — with the moon and others, — there triumphs a certain night of Śiva, whose form shines with the outpouring of its own light||4.22||
अप्युपार्जितमहं त्रिषु लोकेष्वधिपत्यममरेश्वर मन्ये।
Apyupārjitamahaṁ triṣu lokeṣvadhipatyamamareśvara manye|
नीरसं तदखिलं भवदङ्घ्रिस्पर्शनामृतरसेन विहीनम्॥४.२३॥
Nīrasaṁ tadakhilaṁ bhavadaṅghrisparśanāmṛtarasena vihīnam||4.23||
The Lord of immortals, even the obtained lordship over the three worlds I consider all this tasteless, since it is devoid of the nectarous juice of touching Your feet||4.23||
बत नाथ दृढोऽयमात्मबन्धो भवदख्यातिमयस्त्वयैव कॢप्तः।
Bata nātha dṛḍho'yamātmabandho bhavadakhyātimayastvayaiva kḷptaḥ|
यदयं प्रथमानमेव मे त्वामवधीर्य श्लथते न लेशतोऽपि॥४.२४॥
Yadayaṁ prathamānameva me tvāmavadhīrya ślathate na leśato'pi||4.24||
Ah, Lord, firm this bond to oneself, woven from ignorance of You and by You Yourself composed: for it does not slacken by a hair, disregarding You, for me already shining||4.24||
महताममरेश पूज्यमानोऽप्यनिशं तिष्ठसि पूजकैकरूपः।
Mahatāmamareśa pūjyamāno'pyaniśaṁ tiṣṭhasi pūjakaikarūpaḥ|
बहिरन्तरपीह दृश्यमानः स्फुरसि द्रष्टृशरीर एव शश्वत्॥४.२५॥
Bahirantarapīha dṛśyamānaḥ sphurasi draṣṭṛśarīra eva śaśvat||4.25||
Lord of the immortals, though the great and worship Thee unceasingly, Thou remainest in the single form of the worshipper. And here, visible without and within, Thou shinest always only in the body of the seer||4.25||

Stanzas 4.1–4.25 have been translated directly from the Sanskrit, for this site: there is no exposition at the source that could serve as a basis for them.
